Stage 1: Bruxelles/Brussel (192 km, flat)

The second Grand Depart held in Brussels after the one in 1958. A first stage of 192 kilometres which will honour the sprinters. On their way out of Brussels, the riders may be thinking of the Mur de Grammont climb which was already on the route of Eddy Merckx's first Tour de France in 1969. Change of direction in Charleroi and the racers will embark upon a cobbled sector and then pass near the Butte du Lion. The final stretch is through the streets of Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, where the young Eddy put on his first yellow jersey.
