"Fawzi, the bell founder", "Loubna and the wish tree", "Badih, the flatbread seller"... Stories that all come from volume 2 of "Dessine-Moi un Proverbe" (Draw Me a Proverb) by Caroline Torbey (illustrated by Renée Thomas). Winner of the 2019 Trophée des Français de l'Étranger prize, in the category for former students of French high schools around the world, now living in Beirut, Caroline Torbey wanted to share the age-old oral traditions with a wider audience. Her primary target: the young Lebanese. And notably the "hybrids", as she calls them, a group to which she also belongs: those who only have one Lebanese parent. "Burning was not a reason to put our life on hold or to stop playing rummy. Really, I didn't know which country to choose, the most important thing was to change the course of my destiny..." Fawzia Zouari is one of the sixteen writers who tell stories of migration and hope for another life in "Méditerranée, Amère Frontière" (Mediterranean, Bitter Frontier) published by Actes Sud, for which all profits will be paid to the humanitarian organisation SOS Méditerranée. The journalist and novelist was awarded the Prix des Cinq Continents de la Francophonie (Five Continents of La Francophonie Prize) in 2016 for "Le Corps de Ma Mère" (The Body of My Mother) published by Joëlle Losfeld. A prodigy from everywhere and nowhere, Ara Malikian is concertmaster with the Madrid Symphony Orchestra. Whether he plays Vivaldi or Led Zeppelin, this Beirut-born violinist leaves no-one indifferent. Currently on a world tour, the rock star of classical music will be playing at Olympia, Paris, on 13 October 2019.
#Connection Tunis with Sofiane Ouissi. Until 13 October 2019, the Medina in Tunis will be living to the rhythm of this year's Dream City. The co-founder of this multidisciplinary contemporary art festival, also a dancer and choreographer, reveals some of the event's major highlights. #Atmosphere with the guests' cultural favourites.
