Great wines, great poverty
In France, with its seasonal and part-time work, the wine industry represents a corridor of poverty along the Gironde estuary. In the Médoc, it overlaps with an area producing some prestigious wines. The vineyards contribute to making the département of Gironde the poorest region in Aquitaine.
