The smell of white Cleopatra glue, the blanket from the "bled" back home, tea time, "cashir"... In "Le Petit Rachid" (Little Rachid), published by Lapin, the author and illustrator Rachid Sguini, better known as Rakidd on the social networks, uses humour and nostalgia to share memories of his childhood in the France of the 1990s.
From Nancy (eastern France) where she grew up, via Cairo, Jerusalem, Washington and Mansourah in Algeria, the journalist and director Dorothée-Myriam Kellou follows the trail of her French-Algerian family. A very personal story and a reflection on memory, identity and transmission. "Nancy-Kabylie" (Nancy-Kabylia) is published by Grasset.
In the heart of the souks of Salalah and Muscat, Oman, Vladimir Antaki's photographs immortalise the shop-owners, naturally and without pretence. Echoing the images, an audio system describes the profession of the perfumer and his expertise, highly-respected in Arab society. The series, using the same approach as that for his work "Les Gardiens" (The Guardians), is open to the public until 17 March at the Arab World Institute in Paris, as part of the wider exhibition "Parfums d'Orient" (Perfumes of the Orient). As an introduction, he will also be talking about his series "Pèlerinage" (Pilgrimage).
In "Le Ravissement" (The Rapture), the actress Hafsia Herzi plays a woman ready to do whatever it takes in order to be loved. A first feature film by the director Iris Kaltenbäck and winner of the SACD Prize at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival Critics' Week.
