To coincide with French Language and Francophonie Week, French words derived from Arabic are in the spotlight in #MOE.

In `80 mots de Tunisie' (published by L'Asiathèque), Emna Belhaj Yahia reunites her two languages, French and Tunisian Arabic, to really touch upon the regional particularities and recount what they tell us about Tunisia today.

After `Des Martiens au Sahara, deux siècles de fake news archéologiques', Jean-Loïc Le Quellec investigates the fascination that Ancient Egypt has provoked across the centuries, from the Renaissance to Napoleon, as well as for the white supremacists of the 19th century, Malcom X and Maître Gims. He publishes `Nos ancêtres les pharaons, cinq siècles d'illusions sur l'Égypte ancienne' (published by éditions du Détour).

Their new song `Toi et moi' is a heartfelt cry of love towards music. On the social networks, the duo Mauvais Oeil also likes to revisit the songs of Édith Piaf, Britney Spears, Michel Berger and Raze de Soare, incorporating the goblet drum, kanun or violins. As an exclusivity in #MOE, Sarah and Alexis propose a teaser of their concert at La Cigale in Paris on 4 December 2024.

This year, a flagship of the French language in the Middle East celebrates its centenary: the daily newspaper `L'Orient-Le Jour', based in Beirut, was born of the merger in 1971 of the newspaper `L'Orient', founded in 1924, and `Le Jour', launched a decade later. A real institution in Lebanon and the region, `L'Orient-Le Jour' has resisted wars and crises. Report by Sophie Guignon and Wissam Charaf.
