Egypt's fourth pyramid, the Star of the Orient, the Nightingale of the Nile, El Sett (the Lady)... Throughout her life, Umm Kulthum has been rewarded with superlatives that reflect the unconditional love the Arab world bears her. How did a young peasant farmer born in Tamay, in the Nile Delta, become an iconic singer? Her destiny is recounted in "Oum Kalthoum, Naissance d'un Diva" (Umm Kulthum, birth of a diva), a graphic novel by Chadia Loueslati and Nadia Hathroubi-Safsaf (published by La Grenade/JC Lattès).

The 25th Art Paris will be held from 30 March to 2 April 2023 at the Grand Palais Éphémère Champ-de-Mars. A theme for this year: exile; a guest: Amanda Abi Khalil. The founder of the Temporary Art Platform in Beirut, living between France, Lebanon and Brazil, is the curator for the visitor pathway "L'Exil: Dépossession et Résistance", (Exile: Dispossession and Resistance), that brings together Majd Abdel Hamid, Anas Albraehe, Taysir Batniji, Leyla Càrdenas, Leylâ Gediz...

The time Emir Abdelkader, a key figure in Algerian resistance against the French occupation, spent in Syria is at the heart of a first novel by Hamza Laleg. In "Le Massacre" (The Massacre), published by Hello, the writer recounts his decisive action in saving the Maronite Christians of Damascus in 1860. A skilful blend of history and adventure, he puts the spotlight on a figure rarely seen in the history books: Estève-Laurent Boissonnet, the emir's former jailor in France.

#As seen by Slimane: the allusions the Gulf states make to monotheistic religions. #Atmosphere with the guests' cultural favourites.

Guests: Amanda Abi Khalil, guest independent curator at Art Paris; Chadia Loueslati, illustrator; Nadia Hathroubi-Safsaf, journalist and author; Hamza Laleg, writer; Slimane Zeghidour, TV5MONDE editorialist.
