Houlgate and the Belle Époque
If the Belle Époque changed Paris beyond all recognition, it also transformed what was just an area of dunes and tamarisk until the 19th century. The arrival of wealthy visitors and the fashion for sea-bathing led to the development of Houlgate, with its villas and casinos, in just ten years.
