Cradle of one of the oldest civilisations and veritable crossroads of the Mediterranean, Crete has been subjected to innumerable influences throughout its history, from Venetian to Ottoman and, more recently, European. The Greek island built itself a strong identity, present in its architectural, culinary and musical heritage.
